Rift is a collaborative audiovisual performance for one physical theater performer and live electronics. Inspired and structured after a loose adaptation of the five stages of grief, introduced by Kübler-Ross in her 1969 book On Death and Dying, the work presents the journey of an artist’s emotional conflicts.
The narrative consists of two poles: the performer who explores the physical and virtual space while interacting with sound and image, and the invader, represented by the algorithmic simulation of the real-life organism Physarum polycephalum, which inhabits the virtual space and interacts with the on-screen material and the per former.
Rift is an attempt to explore the ambiguous narrative space engendered by the co-existence of physical and virtual agency, human form and xenomor phism, and mediated through digital audiovisuality.
